When showing your house, it’s to your advantage to make it look as generic as possible; buyers should be encouraged to imagine themselves in the home. Here are some tips for getting your home in selling shape!
Get a storage unit. Box up items like photos, mementos, and other décor of sentimental value, and move them to a storage unit. This not only gives you a head start on packing for your move, but gives the home a more polished look.
Thin out your closets. Storage space is a major selling point in any home! Maximize your space by boxing up out-of-season clothes and shoes to keep closets from looking cramped or crowded. Box up extra bed linens, cleaning products, and anything that takes up storage space in cupboards or closets. Avoid storing these items in the garage, as you want that to look spacious, as well. Public storage units are cheap, and a good option for storing items that are not currently needed.
Maintain it. Give the home a quick once-over every few days, and make sure all loose items are put away or packed in storage. You won’t need to rush to prepare the house for a last-minute showing! If you’re hosting an event at your house, be sure that your realtor knows not to show the house for a day or two, until it’s back in ideal condition.
